    This report aims to provide capacity building on disaster risk financing and insurance (DRFI) in ASEAN member states. It discusses the financial assessment and financial management of natural disasters and then goes on to describe agricultural insurance and disaster microinsurance. It concludes by arguing that governments need to understand the benefits and the limitations of disaster risk financing and insurance as part of their disaster risk management strategies.     Assessment of media development in Myanmar: based on UNESCO's media development indicators

    Description
    This report assesses media development in Myanmar from May 2014 to April 2016 and represents an objective, analytical stock-taking of how far Myanmar has progressed towards a more free, independent and pluralistic media five years after the country embarked on a series of political, social, and economic reform processes. Key developments in the media sector include the adoption in 2014 of the Printing and Publishing Enterprise Law (PPEL), which officially abolished past prior censorship and allowed newspapers to become editorially independent from the state; the Broadcasting Law of 2015, which enables private, public and community media to flourish; and the establishment of the Myanmar News Media Council in October 2015. This Media Development Indicators (MDI) report on media development in Myanmar, is the result of a collaboration between the UNESCO Bangkok Office and press freedom NGO International Media Support (IMS). Published June 2016.
